Eldercare Industry Grows 40 Percent Over Four Years

Eldercare Industry Grows 40 Percent Over Four YearsCHICAGO IL – Despite the slowed pace of the national economy, jobs in the eldercare industry – the business of providing health and home care services for senior citizens – has grown by 40 percent since 2008, according to the new “Senior Care Employment Index” from CaregiverList.com. The Chicago-based company matches subscribing eldercare agencies, including some in the greater Pottstown PA area, to families seeking services.

Additionally, it said, eldercare workers overall earn about $10 hourly, 38 percent more than the national minimum wage. “There is a huge demand in senior care, along with great pay opportunities and a variety of jobs available,” company founder and CEO Julie Northcutt claimed. “The industry is growing so quickly often these jobs can’t be filled due to a lack of applicants.”

The index noted that the Philadelphia metropolitan area was among the nation’s top 20 cities for senior caregiver employment.
